In 2017 ITV’s Air Time Sales Technology department enabled £1.7 Billion of advertising revenue, making ITV the largest commercial broadcaster in the UK and in the top 3 for total ad spend across all media, competing with Google and Facebook.
We want to leverage the latest technology and practices to improve our performance, enabling us to innovate and challenge our competitors as broadcast and digital advertising continues to overlap.
We are in the early phase of re-architecting for the delivery of promising new pilots in ad tech and building an API platform to unlock the potential of our systems and data.
We are streamlining and automating our practices by working closely with our in-house domain experts to reduce friction and increase efficiency.
We are figuring out how to improve our forecasting and optimise the placement of TV ads for our massive audience using the data at our disposal.

Our cross functional teams self organise following agile principles, working in a cloud first environment. Work life balance is respected and remote working is supported at a discretionary level.

- At present Commercial Technology systems are Java 8 backend with Angular frontend. This however is not prescribed, most other teams in ITV have opted for Scala, and there is a mixture of React or Elm being used for frontend. The selection of technology for new systems is open for discussion and your suggestions.
- Our CI pipelines tend to use Jenkins, Github, Terraform and Puppet on AWS, however this is a rapidly evolving area and we have support from our central Platform Engineering team who help keep us moving in a good direction.
- We use Google products for email and document sharing with Apple hardware for development.
- Software engineers capable of delivering well tested and maintainable Java code that meets the requirements of the users in an incremental process.
- Engineers who have the experience to tackle common issues before they arise, who discuss intelligently the different options available to solving problems and can work effectively as a member of a team.
- Engineers with a genuine passion for technology, who can think about strategic solutions whilst focusing on immediate needs of the business.
- Engineers with a growth mindset, who enjoy teaching others what they know and can laugh at their own mistakes.
- Engineers who match the high standards of those already part of the Commercial Technology team.
- We would expect you to have sufficient suitable academic training to start on your journey of software craftsmanship. Specifically we expect the following:
- Open minded, willing to listen and learn from experienced engineers.
- Comfortable with Java programming language and tools.
- Willingness to learn new technologies.
- Awareness of testing methodologies.
- Understanding of Object Oriented and Functional programming.
- Clear, open communication and effective working as a team member.
